Gail Luna: My baking career started when I was working on a Broadway show called "Mary Poppins" in 2006. I was asked to make a cake for a benefit we were having.
I decided to make the Mary Popins Carpet bag, keep in mind I had never made an "Art Cake" before. So I set out to create something fun. After many hours of baking, rolling, covering and decorating, the Carpet bag was finally complete. At midnight, the day before it was due, the cake began to split. My roommate grab the cake and tried to hold it together, but I said "Let it go! It happens to the best of them". And I laughed. At mid-night I started all over. The new cake was finished by 6am and ready for the benefit! And, that's where it all began.
My design skills for baking go back to
my years of being an award winning
scenic designer, as well as a
multimedia artist, creating one of a
kind jewelry, showing photographic
essays and selling my original
watercolor paintings in various
galleries in Vail and Aspen, Colorado. As a stage manager I have worked not only regionally but internationally. Broadway shows include; Thouroughly Modern Millie, The Lion King, Mary Poppins and the National tours of West Side Story, Some Enchanted Evening as well as Concerts in Canada and the US. I've also been associated with many special events with such notables as Mayor Bloomberg, John Mahoney, Elaine Stritch, Katy Perry, Gloria Gaynor, Anna Marie Perez De Tagale of Hanna Montanna and The Victoria Secret Models...
